I am going to succeed because I am crazy enough to believe I can.

Hello dolls!

I have been back in Small Town USA as of Saturday night.  Getting to JFK was much more complex than LaGuardia, I will try to never fly there again.  My plane was so small and I had to take the train out of Penn Station to AirTram all alone, so that was nerve wrecking. I also didn’t know which terminal to go to, and unlike the Buffalo airport, that makes a big difference.  I had to walk to the proper terminal because I got off at a stop that didn’t link to Delta.  I had a heavy suitcase, multipurpose tote, and shopping bag -that I refused to check (that would be 25 dollars less shopping money).  Once you get past the transportation issues, I adored New York.

The whole time I was there I was contemplating whether I could see myself living there and I still haven’t come to a conclusion.. but I guess we’ll find out whether I will have the internship opportunity to by the end of the month.  I had 6 interviews with Coach and they all went really well!  I am hoping I get the Visual Merchandising, Fashion Merchandising, or Social Media Marketing ones the most.  One of the interviews was with Reed Krakoff, Coach’s luxury line, and I kind of fudged that one up.  I froze a little with the designer questions, because I prepared myself with Coach information.. not Chanel, Kate Spade, and Tory Burch.  Two of which happen to be huge competitors.  I don’t regret anything though.

I sat across from a pair of Christian Loubitons and I am fairly sure I was one of the youngest people in the room.  This was not necessarily a disadvantage though: because an Associate’s Degree at 18 tends of stand out.  There were 100-150 of us in a big room.  I was intimidated beyond belief, but I tried not to let it show.

One of the interviewers called me the perfect candidate, which made me feel much better.  I name dropped my store manager’s names, the Entrepreneurship project I did incorporating being a possible franchisee of Coach, and new promotional tactics I have been using in the store.  I should have made more copies of my resume to be honest, but I tried to make up for it by blabbing.

Once I left the job fair style interviews, I was so excited that I decided to visit the Webster Apartments a block a way.  My fashion professor recommended them and they were in such close proximity it seemed like a good idea.

They were nice.  I almost suffocated in the cement 10×10 room that would cost me more than 1 grand per month though.  It’s just ridiculous how little money buys you in the big city.

$1400 could rent me  3-4 bedroom house out here.

The common rooms, meal plan, theater, and library looked nice though.  It’s really safe and only for women which makes daddy feel better about the whole thing.  I am still keeping my options open of course, if anyone has any intern housing suggestions near Midtown/Chelsea.

NYU and FIT have dorms that are available.  I wouldn’t be able to visit them before determining where I am staying June-Aug since I’m home now, but I’ll have to deal with that.

FIT College - small

I did not get the chance to tour FIT or LIM during my short time in the city, which is a shame.  I passed FIT buildings a few times, but the weather was crazy and one day LIM even had a snow day.  I was really busy with interviewing, shopping, and going to comedy shows anyways.

The apartment I rented was directly in the middle of Yuppie paradise.  I really liked it.  We were pretty close to everything and walked everywhere to try and burn off all of the gourmet cupcakes we ate.

I could see myself doing it again, absolutely.

It’s the fact I would be doing it alone that scares me.  My sense of direction is pretty pathetic and I would only know a few people in the vicinity.  I love the diversity and opportunity though.  You need to take risks to get reward I suppose.

I was talking to the nicest lady on the flight back about all the big decisions I have to make.  She said that I give her hope for my generation.  That’s a lot of weight to carry, but hey I’ll take the title.

If she saw me at 1 in the morning before I flew out to NYC trying to decide what to wear for my interview, she might take that comment back though.  I was throwing clothes and had mixed messages going through my head about the impression I wanted to make.  Once I got the interviews, I realized that my red dress would have been fine.. but I played it safe and conservative.

I wore my little black A-line dress, large pearls, and leather quilted boots with black tights. I had light pink lipgloss on and my hair was down.  My sequin coat and sequin scarf were the furthest things from understated, but I left them in the coat room anyways.

My turquoise Coach Isabella popped so well with my outfit.  It was impressive.  After the interview I went back to the apartment and went a more casual route, because we were going to Times Square.

time

Times Square is too touristy for me.  If it wasn’t for the 4 floor Forever 21 and Hello Kitty, I would probably never go back.

I don’t like the fact that it looks like day time at night in that area and that it is drowning in consumerism.

That may be an odd comment from someone that wants to break into the Fashion Industry, but there is more to life.  I bought a rainbow coat from the 1960s at a vintage store, but not because there was an abundance of tacky advertisements trying to suck me in… it was because I genuinely liked it.  And that’s the part of fashion I really like: when you can look at something and know that it SCREAMS you.  It represents you and you are proud to wear it.  How many Hollister Graphic Tees would you want to say that about?

Darlings!! I got the job at Coach, permanently.  It’s so exciting. I like knowing I will have somewhat glamorous dependable income.  Life is crazy and chaotic, but I expect nothing less.  I am a level 2 part timer, which means I work 15-22 hours per week.  I am yet to take the plunge and take advantage of my lovely employee discount, I think I deserve bonus points for that.  Not to say I’m not drooling over shimmery leather bags and signature infinity scarves.  I am saving my pennies for trips to Florida and New York CIty though. I need a change of scenery, I’m just taking online classes mainly after all. I have a pink shoe fund piggy bank, I should tape over that and put saving up for life… And Tory Burch flats. #sorrynotsorry

I know I’m the biggest traitor ever, but I want a Michael Kors Hamilton Bag too..  Curse my expensive taste! Hourly wage at Coach doesn’t support my desires.  One day.. when I’m a famous magazine writer you’ll see my black pumps with red soles walking away from those items I want now.  They’ll be so 2013.

My bag from Paris finally came, the maude and tilda one? I like it alot.. but I need to take back my bragging review.  The quality is pretty lame, and I could have had the clever quote screen printed in the USA for like 20 dollars.  I wish I hadn’t paid so much, but I am still happy I have it.  My mom dragged me in a thrift store with her, and wearing a bag that says “Not comfortable prancing around with my Chanel bag” was a hoot.

It wasn’t one of those cute trendy second hand boutiques either.

I’m indulging in wayyyyy too much TV time lately.  The Hills and The Carrie Diaries are my FAV pass times.  I feel fashion inspired with nowhere to wear it.  I am newly obsessed with Lauren Conrad and Whitney Port.  I missed that oh so 2007 phase of the show because my parents banished MTV from my house.  I know the show is fake, please don’t ruin anything more of it for me!  Carrie on the other hand is definitely going to inspire my need to watch Sex and the City after this.  I adore living through these TV shows.  I was talking to one of my long distance best friends about fickle friends and I referred to Lauren Conrad as my very picky best friend. Kinda wish I was kidding.

The girls on these shows TOTALLY drive my desire to look supurb by spring break.  They’re ridiculously fit.  I have lost 12 pounds since I left Canisius though so they are a positive influence! Aerobics KILLS my ass, but its going to be one perky rear end when I’m done with it.  Bowling starts at the end of February, and although it’s not exherting that much energy it has more impact that I do lounging on my lovely bedding in my BEA-UTIFUL re-fabbed room!

Well technically it’s jenna’s and mine.  Just picture marilyn and audrey up there. MMMMM. Vintage and modern heaven. I cannot wait to get a desk and vanity in there.  It’s going to be so victorian chic.  Those style icons with gorgeous bone structure with also influence the lifestyle change occurring now.

I NEED TO INVEST IN A PEDOMETER TO WEAR AROUND COACH. I get freaking shin splints and swear I walk miles over an 8 hour shift in that tiny store.  I need comfier shoes.. I adore my British Tan riding boots, don’t get me wrong… I just think leather flats would be more appropriate.

I ditched the button down already. Starched and pressed collars are too much work.

Dear Lord, I sound like such a lazy prep.. I’m going on Forever 21 right now to buy fake pearls. #judgeme

Dress well, think well.

It’s incredibly hard to believe my first semester at Canisius ends on friday.  I have extremely mixed feelings about it.  I’ve made GREAT friends here, I get to do pretty much whatever I want.. I know how to get around by bus and metro even though I don’t have a car and it’s always exciting and adventurous.  Some of the adventure, like shootings, robberies, getting lost, paying bills, and figuring out life for myself aren’t easy.  It especially feels difficult because it’s finals week this coming week and when all I want to do is curl up in a ball watch movies and stuff my face with chocolate.. it’s discouraging.  But I’m proud of my grades, and plan on kicking butt on the final.  I went to the mall to finish some Christmas shopping tonight, and rewarded myself with a purchase as well.  Momma might not believe me, but I do my best work when I’m well dressed.  It may be a mindset, but hey any excuse to buy an infinity scarf and sparkly sweater.

I can’t escape the leggings, sweaters, and scarf trend.  I absolutely adore it.  Maybe it’s because I’m allowed to indulge and still fit into clothing, unlike bikini season? But whatever I’m not a VS Angel, so I deserve to treat myself once in a while.

Tonight I’m eating chocolates momma sent me, sipping tea with my friend Mia and watching PS: I Love You.  It may be your stereotypical girls night, but I need it.  I’m long overdue for girl time and I need to indulge.  I think if I go to bed by 2 after a night of low key fun, I will be able to wake up for the Kate Spade sale on ebay tomorrow starting at 6am.

#sorrynotsorry

I love a good deal and 75% off Kate Spade when you have connections for Santa (; this X-mas season, is very exciting.  I just need to wake up and find the perfect purse.  I still want to indulge in a Michael Kors Hamilton bag and Tory Burch flats, but we’ll prioritize that once I find out about getting a job for the break.  I have a babysitting gig lined up for New Years Eve and I put in applications to Target and Jo Anne’s, but I’m yet to hear.  I also applied to substitute teach in my sibling’s new school district, so I’m really hoping I get that.  It’s somewhat flexible and temporary since it’s hard enough to find someone that wants you to work for only a month.

This month off is going to be heavenly at first, enjoyable over X-mas… but it could get extremely boring extremely quick.  I’m trying not to go in with that attitude, but I don’t have friends in Youngstown since I moved there the day before I moved into college and have only been home 4 times.  All very family oriented occasions.

My mom says we’ll go to the gym, and we can shop.. but to do that I need to get a job.  I also need to take the car and explore the town, because I refuse to get lost like Black Friday again.  I just want to make sure I get a sense of independence when I go home, because I thrive on it.  I am looking to dedicate a lot more time to my blog and fashion articles over the break.  So if all else fails, the internet will continue to be my escape mechanism.  Feel free to approach me with things, I am always open to opportunities.  My e-mail is preppylogic15@yahoo.com.

Speaking of Fashion, and since I’m assuming you’re interested cuz you’re on a fashion blog.. have you seen the article written on Anna Wintour? More power to her.  Politics and fashion merging, thats practically a dream.  Check it out on http://www.refinery29.com/2012/12/40241/anna-wintour-ambassador
