Patience and Faith

Patience is not a virtue I possess.

I’ve known this for a long time, but with college acceptances and internship verdicts there is no exception.  It has been 41 days since my Coach internship interviews.  More than 41 days since I tweaked my resume and stressed over which outfit to wear.  It has been 18 days since I was supposed to notified.  I’m obviously handling that very well…

So I’ve e-mailed, tweeted, and complained through whatever means necessary to try and get some answers.  I finally resorted to THE PHONE CALL today.

“Hello this is Allison Deutschman, I was a candidate for the Coach internships back in March.  I was just calling to find out when candidates would be contacted or if you would be contacted even if you were declined the opportunity?”

“Hi Allison, the candidates will be contacted tomorrow.”

“Okay. Thank you!”

“You’re Welcome.”

“Good Bye.”

I know I rambled, I tried to get straight to the point.. but hey at least I know tomorrow is the day.

Tomorrow I will have the verdict on how I will be spending my 78 days of my summer.  On the couch watching netflix 24/7… or in the city where dreams are made (with a side of netflix).

I have finally decided how I am spending my fall, winter, and spring for the next 2 years: at FIT.  The deposit is in, the decision is final.  I am going to be completing my Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Merchandising at the United States’ best Fashion school.

Muy Bueno.

I’m pretty excited about this.  I’m also scared about of my mind, but I am really really pumped.

This upcoming fall semester will be so different from my last one.  I’m already talking to some girls about getting an apartment.   I choke about every time I hear about housing expenses, but hey you can’t have it all.

I’m in a really good mood today.  I think it is because the weather is feeling pretty Floridian, it’s reached the low 70s and although there are still pine trees instead of palm trees in my front yard I will take it.

I wish I had a cute beach hat.. I love the ones I found on my new favorite site: http://www.marleylilly.com.  I wish cute beach hats were socially acceptable about the Mason Dixon line.

Speaking of cute hats, I went to an estate sale last week and saw these lovely big hats in lovely hat boxes from at least 20 years ago.  They were very dressy and totally not the norm, but I drooled and debated.  I ended up buying a Coach purse (surprise surprise) and fur trimmed coat (I FEEL LIKE I BELONG IN OLD HOLLYWOOD) instead, thinking I would come back for the hat if it was still there the next day.

But the whole house was gone the next day.

That mansion burned to a crisp, along with the hat and little old man with Alzheimers inside of it. Talk about goose bump causing.

This week has certainly had some nationwide disasters. Between Boston and Texas, I’m scared to know what could happen next.

I didn’t go to church this past Sunday and I need to go this Sunday because just in case one of these disasters involves me.. I need God to know I love him.

My faith has been wavering a little bit lately.  I’m not a huge fan of this church that my parents go to and I never was a fan of the church before that.  I know that the world is just testing me, but in such a scary place I need to have faith.

I can’t live in the city where dreams are made of, looking like a nightmare.

I have a make up addiction.

I’m not one of those girls that looks like they’ve gotten into a fight with a pack of Crayola crayons, thats the girl that sold me my cosmetics, bless her soul.

I’m not sure why I didn’t care about her appearance before I bought cosmetics from her?  After all, my rules have always been:

1) Don’t get your hair done by a hair dresser with bad hair. (or ombre hair. purposely placed roots are just as bad as “i missed my 6 week mark” roots)

Valentino Rodeo Drive Flagship Opening

2) Don’t get your eyebrows done by someone with none (this includes tattooed on eyebrows or the other extreme of growing caterpillars across the face)

But thankfully, Miss. Bare Minerals representative did not give me bad recommendations, I love my purchases.  I bought mascara, silver eyeshadow that turns gold as it wears aka the coolest eyeshadow ever, black glitter shadow, nude lipstick, berry lipstick, brick red lipstick, purple eye liner, forest eye liner, black eye liner, a lip stick brush, a fan brush, and eye shadow primer.  For 45 dollars, this cosmetic excursion was much more successful than my Clinique trip 2 days prior.

I just wanted a “Taylor Swift’s last album-esque lip”.  I didn’t realize I may have to sell my first born child to get it.. but Red Red Red is worth worth worth it.  Although Bare Minerals has wax-less lipsticks, they don’t have a color with as much punch.  I don’t regret purchasing my Clinique lipstick and anti-oil powder in the least.

My mother on the other hand, doesn’t understand the investment that cosmetics need to be.  I hadn’t come to this realisation until rather recently, but you can guess mummy dearest has been around a few years longer than myself so I think she should understand.  I’ve had an ongoing lecture from her about saving for my 10×10 cell in Manhattan.  I know I need to.. but I can’t live in the city where dreams are made of looking like a nightmare.  At least I haven’t attacked my wardrobe all that much, $100 dollars worth of make up is so much self control.

When I wasn’t hiding my facial flaws, I was allowing waterproof spandex to expose a few others.  My swimsuit hunt at Old Navy and Marshalls was actually successful even though I decided not to order from ModCloth.  It was quite frankly beyond successful, because I got two.

Picture this suit on a person that has digested a cheeseburger (okay 2..), has the chest to fill it out and a more tan skin tone.  It’s actually really cute when you use your imagination.  Think more America Ferrara and less Nicole Richie.  Also, mine has more rouching, but not in a bad way.

Use your imagination just one last time, with this suit in coral!  This bad boy was TWENTY DOLLARS at Marshalls, and so figure flattering.  I’m not even ashamed to say both of these suits are one pieces, because they look really good!  And although I may not have the oompa loompa above’s thigh gap or 14 inch waist, I can say I will honestly be proud to strut in these swim suits on a sandy beach of self conscious bikini wearers.

PS: With a little help from Bare Minerals and Clinique, this was my classy Coach work look yesterday:

Trends and temptations

Yesterday I went shopping to prepare for my trip to Panama City in April.  I splurged on some “Red, Red, Red” lipstick at Clinique as well some powder.  Both items weren’t originally on my list, but just like handbags, make up is so much easier to buy than clothes sometimes.  I bought 2 pairs of shorts and a pair of ankle pants from EXPRESS.  I noticed ankle pants in New York and Company, Banana Republic, JCPenney, The Limited, and LOFT.  They’re apparently going to be HUGE this spring/summer.  They flatter girls with a little more to love in the thigh region, but hit differently in length than capris.  I was confused at first by the trend, but now I love them. The shorts were a flattering 4 inch inseam and although difficult to find in a store with so little fabric, they were worth the search.

Last year I was OBSESSED with JCrew’s 3-5inch inseam shorts.  I felt like they hit and fit perfectly.  I own at least 10 pairs, maybe 15.  The sad part, as was mentioned last post, is that those shorts don’t fit any longer.  I’m sipping a watered down Tim Hortons smoothie, instead of eating a crescent and I know I just had a “I love my body” post.. but I love those shorts.

And I refuse to go into stores like EXPRESS and LOFT and be the largest size.  I still stand by my comment that society is the issue, but society also makes it really hard for big girls.

And J Crew makes it tough because those shorts don’t have stretch.

So, for Spring Break I will wear the EXPRESS shorts and ankle pants.  I have some Lauren Conrad denim shorts that will also get me through the week, but besides that, I have to try harder to be healthy for the sake of J Crew by summer.

If I am down in Manhattan, ankle pants will be the perfect office appropriate bottom.  I also have all of those dresses I picked up at Charlotte Russe.  Even if it’s 10 pounds, my entire wardrobe would appreciate a little nip tuck.

While I was at the mall, I also was looking for more exercise attire.  I have always loved my Victoria’s Secret yoga pants, but was very disappointed!  The waste band prints look cheesy and tacky, not worth 40 dollars.  I was then further disappointed by my free panty coupon being out of date.  VS and I aren’t on speaking terms right now.

That isn’t necessarily a bad thing though, because my wallet can’t deal with her.  I have done really well saving money, but I signed up for my first credit card a few months back and she has this way of making me think I have more money than I do.  And with rent sky rocketing in the city, I have to save… but Coach just got in a shipment of neon rainbow colored packable totes that would serve as a fantastic carry on bag.

I bought the cutest luggage tag at Francesca’s Collections yesterday.  It said “You wouldn’t look good in my clothes.” and has my name and number on the back.  I always do carry on with Delta or Southwest, but I couldn’t resist.

I’m a little worried that with all these tempting purchases in the middle of nowhere, how I am supposed to resist NYC.  I suppose having a 10 x 10 cell -I mean room 🙂 to live in will play a role.  I have no idea how I would even bring all of my clothes with me, but I guess we will cross that bridge when we get to it.

On a random note, 6 weeks until I have my Associate’s!!!
